Last week, we welcomed Edina Veres and Stephanie Goodrum from the United Way Mentoring Program as our featured speakers.


Through its Mentor Match investment area, United Way funds and manages 25 local mentoring programs. The United Way Mentor Center serves as the cornerstone of the Palm Beach County Mentor Network, a professional coalition of 60 formal mentoring programs dedicated to enhancing mentoring initiatives throughout the community. Together, these programs facilitate over 6,500 mentor-mentee matches annually.


All programs within the Mentor Center Network require a minimum commitment of one hour per week, or four hours per month, for at least 10–12 months. Volunteers must pass a Level-2 Background Screening, and some programs may also require a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). Program staff provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure volunteers are well-equipped for their roles.


Community-Based Mentoring Programs


Mentoring takes place in community settings, with mentors and mentees determining meeting times and locations based on program guidelines. Matches typically meet during evenings or weekends.


Featured Program: Children’s Home Society – MODEL Mentoring (Xcel Mentoring – Fueled with Purpose)



  • Mentees: Children ages 6–12 from single-parent households


  • Mentors: Individuals 21+ years old, must pass MVR


  • Type: One-to-one mentoring


  • Geographic Area: All of Palm Beach County
