September 3rd - SPEAKER

The scheduled speaker was unable to attend, so Robert Gonzalez Sr., owner of Gonz Auto Body & Repair Services, graciously stepped in to share his expertise. He began by outlining the critical steps to take when your vehicle is damaged in an accident.

First, he emphasized the importance of a thorough pre-inspection to assess the full extent of the damage. Often, hidden issues lurk beneath fenders and bumpers, which can be detected using advanced sensors and diagnostic modules. Identifying all damage upfront is essential for a proper repair.

Gonz also advised that you are not obligated to use the repair shop recommended by your insurance company. While there may be advantages to choosing their preferred shop, there are also potential drawbacks. He strongly recommended against accepting used parts to replace damaged components, as this is often a cost-saving tactic by insurance companies. However, if you're paying out of pocket, used parts might be a viable option.

The discussion also touched on the risks of using car dealerships for repairs. Some unscrupulous dealers may push for unnecessary work, as their technicians often earn commissions based on the services performed. Gonz’s insights underscored the importance of being informed and proactive when navigating vehicle repairs.

September 10th - SPEAKER

Our speaker, Cherryl Cannon, delivered a compelling presentation on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which profoundly impacts military veterans, first responders, and others exposed to trauma. She highlighted the mission of Erase PTSD Now, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to eradicating PTSD and restoring individuals, families, and communities to a pre-trauma state. The organization is driven by the understanding that unaddressed trauma perpetuates cycles of pain, and it is committed to breaking these cycles through effective treatment, research, and awareness.

Cannon discussed the growing evidence supporting Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) as a highly effective treatment for PTSD. Research, case studies, and surveys continue to validate its success, with notable findings including:

• Significant improvements in PTSD symptom severity, as measured by the PTSD Military Checklist, and enhanced memory function, as assessed by the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, in a combat-exposed veteran with persistent PTSD and co-occurring alcohol use disorder.

  
  

• Within one month of the initial SGB treatment, the veteran experienced a 43.6% reduction in PTSD symptom severity, alongside a 50% increase in immediate memory, a 28% improvement in recent memory, and a 25% enhancement in recognition memory.

  
  

• Following a second round of SGB, PTSD severity decreased by 58%, with immediate, recent, and recognition memory improving by 50%, 58%, and 36%, respectively.

Erase PTSD Now is actively working to eliminate financial barriers to SGB treatments, raise awareness, and fund further research to advance the fight against PTSD.
