The Card 50/50 drawing fund has reached $ 410 with 37 cards left in the deck. You can’t win if you’re not at the meeting, so come on out.

Last week Chris Dabros again, ran the meeting as our president, Amanda is on maternity leave.  Congratulations on her 6-pound 14-ounce baby girl, Emma. Mother and daughter are doing fine.

Our member Jim Gavrilos has presented a challenge for the Forgotten Soldiers event on November 6. During Halloween, families spend an average of $108 on candy & costumes. If we can spend that much on Halloween, then we should be able to spend that much for our veterans. He will put up the first $108 and invited other Rotarians to match his donation for this great organization.(Editor’s note:  I’ll match it—anyone else?)

Last week our speaker was Betty Resch, the Mayor of Lake Worth Beach, who is in her second term. She was originally elected in 2021. She said she spends most of her time answering emails on broken sidewalks and trash pickup. It’s very time-consuming. She hates running for office but loves the job of being mayor. She originally came here in 1967 and moved permanently in 1979. She said the city is in good shape except for the City Hall, which needs rebuilding. They have difficulties communicating with the employees in the present facilities where they are located.    Currently, the big project they have is the Gulfstream Hotel, which is being reconstructed. They broke ground in May and should be complete by 12/25. Also, they have a donor who wants to donate and build a World Class Porcelain Museum in LWB. He wants to put in the museum with affordable housing of 8 units around and upstairs of the museum.

The upcoming Veterans Day (11/11) she wants to do something for the Vets at Bryant Park. She would like to display flags and/or have the fountain have red, white, and blue colors. She wants the city’s civic organizations (Rotary/ Kiwanis/ Lions) to get involved. We should contact her to discuss this.   Bresch@Lakeworthbeachfl.gov
Rotarian Phil Albertz and Megan Gonzalez, Interact advisor held an Interact sign-up at John I. Leonard High School and reported that they signed up about 25 students.  Hopefully, most of them will attend the Interact meeting next week.
We were doing a home renovation and when we knocked down a wall we found a secret fully furnished room. Then I remembered we live in a duplex….Phil Albertz reporting for your editor Pat Growney
