November 12th- SPEAKER

Last week, our guest speaker was Maestro Mark Humphreys, conductor of the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches.

This coming season celebrates the band’s 63rd year as a nonprofit community ensemble of exceptionally gifted volunteer musicians from throughout Palm Beach County and beyond. Founded in 1961 by Palm Beach High School band alumni, the ensemble delights audiences with a wide-ranging repertoire that includes classical masterpieces, jazz standards, rousing marches, and Broadway favorites. Every dollar raised from concerts directly supports music scholarships and school music programs right here in Palm Beach County.

The Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches performs at two outstanding venues on the Palm Beach State College campuses: the Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens and the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth Beach.

ROTARY FOUNDATION MOMENT

Our Rotary Foundation Chair, President-Elect Harry, delivered an engaging and concise overview of The Rotary Foundation’s remarkable history.

He traced its origins back to 1917, when Rotary International President Arch C. Klumph established it with an initial donation of just $26.50. From that modest beginning, the Foundation has grown exponentially—today, cumulative contributions exceed $4 billion (with more than $70 million donated in the 2003-04 year alone as an early milestone).

Thanks to this extraordinary generosity, more than one million people worldwide have now been named Paul Harris Fellows—recognizing those who have personally contributed $1,000 (or had that amount given in their honor) to the Annual Fund.

This unwavering support from Rotarians everywhere guarantees a bright and sustainable future for The Rotary Foundation as it continues its essential mission of fostering international understanding, goodwill, and peace.

Harry reminded us that November is Rotary Foundation Month and warmly encouraged everyone to consider making a gift this month to help carry this vital work forward.

If you’d like a little help setting up your donation online (it’s quick and easy!), just reach out to Lorraine—she’d be delighted to walk you through it. 😊
