Last week, Trudy Lowe and Carla Blockson spoke about For The Children Inc., a nonprofit founded in 1999 by Reginale "Reggie" Durandisse. A passionate advocate for children, Reggie is a powerful voice for kids and families in Palm Beach County, particularly in Lake Worth Beach.


With just $250, a vision, and a small group of supporters, Reggie established For The Children to address the need for after-school care in Lake Worth. Starting with 25 elementary school children, the organization has expanded its programs across multiple sites in Lake Worth Beach. Today, it serves over 400 children ages 3–18, offering tutoring, homework assistance, computer training, mentoring, conflict resolution, music and dance, field trips, and family support services, including mental health counseling, health education, case management, and a weekly educational program broadcast on local radio and Tele Ibo. As CEO, Reggie’s vision for the organization was born after her previous nonprofit employer, which provided some after-school services, dissolved. Determined to keep youth off the streets, out of trouble, and succeeding in school, she built For The Children into a vital community resource.


Currently, the organization faces a temporary challenge: their building is undergoing renovations, and they need a short-term location to accommodate their 135 students.
