If you want to contribute to this great cause, please let the treasurer know. Our speaker last week was Allen Konis who spoke about the Rotary Foundation and the Paul Harris Society. He explained that The Rotary Foundation is the backbone of all the charitable work that Rotarians do and has earned a five-star (highest) rating from Charity Navigator, the independent organization that rates non-profits. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through improving health, supporting education, and alleviating poverty. The Rotary Foundation helps fund Rotary’s humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. The Foundation leads the charge on the worldwide Rotary campaigns to eradicate polio and promote peace. All other projects start at the club level, that is, each club may apply for grants to help support the humanitarian need that concerns them most. Rotarians and friends of Rotary support the Foundation’s work through voluntary contributions at whatever financial level they are most comfortable with. The Paul Harris Society makes it possible for Rotarians to recognize those Rotarians and friends who annually contribute $1,000 to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or Humanitarian Grant programs and to acknowledge the generosity and commitment of the Paul Harris Society members in support of Rotary’s mission of world understanding and peace. The Rotary Foundation Trustees developed the Paul Harris Society to recognize those whose contributions met three criteria:1) The contribution must be at least $10002) It must be from one individual3) It must be given within a Rotary year. —July 1 to June 30 |

A note from District 6930On behalf of DG Julia ‘Jula’ Babbitt, we hope you, your family, friends and colleagues are safe following Hurricane Helene’s impact on our state. At this time, it appears that District 6940 in the ‘Big Bend’ area took the brunt of the impact, followed by District 6950 immediately to the South and District 6970 to the East.Rotary is not a disaster relief agency, but we do respond when there is a crisis. In some cases, it means we act. Our response might come in the form of direct, hands-on assistance. It might come in the form of funds donated. Or it might look like us making connections with partners who are better equipped to handle the situation. As we wait for the sun to rise and the damage assessments to begin to determine the best courses of action, we would suggest that your club members earmark your monetary donations to the following two sites: Disaster Aid USA https://disasteraidusa.org (you will see a button for Hurricane Helene). Or mailing a check to, Disaster Aid USA, 9817 Lanham Severn Rd Lanham MD 20706. Rotary DNA-RAG website(Hurricane Helene donation button will be up soon) https://www.dna-rag.com Both are valid 501(c)3 tax-deductible organizations. Funds donated via these sites will go directly to the communities affected by the storm. As a reminder, ShelterBox does NOT allow you to earmark your funds. If you want to be sure your funds are used for this storm, you should use the links I have provided. As the needs requests are received by the district, we will send out additional information on other ways you can assist. In the meantime, please get the word out about these two sites. All the best, Shane Smith Disaster Chair, District 6930 |
I’m having a bad day. I was buttoning my shirt and the button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle fell off. I went to open the door and the doorknob came off. Now I’m afraid to pee. Your editor Pat Growney |
